Wrapping Up Europe 2015

Our time here in Italy and Germany has come to a close. This was a different trip in many ways this year, but our goal was still the same. Our deepest desire is to see just one person saved. We may never know until Eternity the outcome of these trips, but it is all worth it.

Our words cannot begin to describe our appreciation for all those who have prayed so fervently for us. There is a battle raging that we cannot see. Most of the time, we fail to even think about the battle that goes on but it is definitely real and very powerful. Our God is greater! Thank you for bringing these prayer requests to Him!

A Good Weekend and Our Goodbyes

Our time in Germany has flown by. We've had a full weekend so I wasn't able to write much, but here is an overview....

Over the last few years that we've been here, Dave has taken a section of town and progressively covered more and more territory with tracts in mailboxes. Friday he was able to cover more ground.

Saturday, we were to have company come over, so the kids and I cleaned up the house and prepared for the meal. Dave went in to Munich and passed out tracts and John/Romans in a very busy area of town. One lady walked by and starting singing Jesus Loves Me, but she didn't take a tract. No one was real talkative that day and we're not sure if that was a good thing or not. In the past, Dave has had some real heated conversations here!

Our German friends came over that afternoon and we had a good time together. Dave passed on more books and DVDs to them. They are hungry to hear more and more. They invited us over for Sunday afternoon.

Sunday, we went to church and missed seeing the pastor that has been there for over 30 years. He is in rehabilitation for a stroke that he had last year. It was good to see his wife though. Pray for her as she has surgery this Thursday. We were glad to hear that their daughter is coming from the States to take care of them!

Sunday afternoon we were able to go to our friends house. We all enjoyed hearing a church service together that evening. Technology has really been a blessing to us when we feel so far away!

Today has been spent getting ready for our trip tomorrow. We are all packed up and now we'll pray for a good night sleep. Tuesday will be a VERY long day! ...kinda like we just keep living the same hour over and over again for awhile!

Thank you so much for your prayers as we travel!

Prayer Requests

I'm sorry for the short post here, but I will update you more later. We do have three prayer requests though....

  • Please pray for the pastor here in Munich. He is in rehab for a stroke that he had. He would rather be ministering instead! Please also pray for his wife as she has undertaken a lot while he is in the rehab facility.
  • Please also pray for Dave as he passes out tracts and John and Romans Saturday. He will be in one of the busiest places in Munich. The people here are also very opinionated. Please pray for safety.
  • Please pray for us Saturday night as we continue a relationship with a couple who we have tried to disciple over the last few years. They will be coming over for a meal and we hope to have good conversations that build all of our faith!
Thank you again for all of your prayers! What a blessing to know we have prayer support!

A Whole New World

We've arrived here in Germany...a whole new world from where we just came from! Language, customs, attitudes etc. are all so different here.

We had a good train ride and a beautiful day to go with it. 13 hours after we left the apartment in Rome, we arrived at the house here in Germany. What a day, but thankful to have made it safe without losing any baggage and without anyone getting hurt!

Dave and I went in to Munich today. We went and visited with a man that Dave had met last year only to find that he is in the States for a few months. We ended up meeting his father and the church they attend were about to have an outreach at the busiest place in Munich. He invited us to come a long and asked Dave to do some street preaching! We had about 30 minutes before it started and so we went and did another errand. I began praying that Dave would have wisdom to know what to do. This is an outreach that we knew would proclaim Jesus, but in ways that maybe we ourselves would need to compromise on. As we walked to the site, huge flags and loud speakers were prevalent. A song was playing on the speakers that we quickly recognized as a song that we were not comfortable with. God gave Dave wisdom through that. I thank Him for answering my prayer. Without going through a lengthy discussion as to why we did not yoke up with these other Christians, I will just say that we are thankful that God worked the way He did and that we have peace about not compromising what we believe to be a doctrinal issue.

We found out today that the pastor of the church we are to help this weekend has had a possible stroke. We have not been able to confirm all of the details yet, but please be in prayer for Pastor Falk and for his wife. Please also be praying that God would direct us in how we can best be helpful while we are here. Some plans are completely up in the air and we would appreciate clear leading.

Thank you again for praying! God bless you as you lift us up in prayer!

Already Time for Goodbye

One week has passed and now we are saying goodbye to this little neighborhood. The children and I were able to do the packing and cleaning today, while Dave went in to Rome. It was a much better day weather wise. The sun was shining and just a bit cool. This is a holiday here called Easter Monday or Lunedi de Pasqua. Dave was able to pass out a lot of tracts today.

After lunch, the kids and I walked the town of Cerveteri and put tracts in mailboxes. We were able to cover a lot of ground! Now, we will pray for the Holy Spirit's working.

Tomorrow is a full days train ride. We'll travel through three countries as well as the Alps. We are looking forward to helping the church in Munich. Thank you for your prayers!

He Lives!

Wet, wet, wet! One word describes so much!

Dave and the three older children left on the 6am train in to Rome. Very few were taking tracts because of the rain but when they moved under the train station where people exit, they were able to pass out a lot more. Most of the time, if you stick around too long, you are asked to leave the area. Instead, they were able to look like they were exiting with the crowd as the last person left. This went on for quite awhile. Please pray for all those who got tracts and Bibles.

Our youngest and I were to meet them later in the morning. We stood for an hour in the rain waiting, but the rest of the family never came. Communication is similar to the 1960's when you don't have cell phones! Funny how a person relies more on God when there isn't anything left to do! Our youngest was distraught that we hadn't met up with them. Finally, I realized we needed to pray about it. God knew exactly where they were! This calmed my child as well as myself. 15 minutes later we ran in to the rest of them...at McDonalds!

After a busy morning and early afternoon, we arrived back at the apartment. One thing we are so thankful for is modern technology. Even though we don't have the best cell phone coverage, we do have Internet access. We were able to watch Sunday school from Bethel and then just before service, we found out we could listen to a live stream of our church at home! Great timing and so thankful a friend from church let us know about it!

One thing really sums up our day.... Jesus is alive! We don't serve a god who is dead, unreal or even uncaring! We serve a God who is risen! Resurrected! Who gives Life and cares for us so much more than we can even comprehend! Nothing happened today because of coincidence, but because Jesus is alive and well! He lives!

Friday

Is the train on its way?

All Aboard for the train in to Roma!

A beautiful blue-sky day... perfect for passing out tracts and Bibles!

Everyone was cleared out of the area so that the police could regulate who goes back in.

Watch out! There are police behind you! (Funny that sometimes they care and sometimes they don't!)

Just a few of the many people that came through the security line to get in to the Coliseum area. We were able to pass out tracts and Bibles in many different languages.

Thank you for all your prayers! Our next big day is Sunday.

Friday is Coming!

Aren't these some cuties!? My how the years have flown! This was our first trip 7 1/2 years ago. Never would we have dreamed that we would come to Italy again. God has brought us here again and again and each time, we are amazed. It is humbling to say the least.

Good Friday is a big event here. There is a special service at the Coliseum that begins at 9pm. The P*pe officiates a special service and includes the twelve st*tions of the cr*ss. It is a very large gathering. People start arriving in the afternoon so that they can get a good spot to watch. We arrive early too and give the crowds something to read! Our backpacks are full and we will bring an extra suitcase full of tracts and John and Romans in several languages. Please pray for us. 4pm would be 9am central. That's about the time we'll start.

Today has been another sunny day here. Dave and Daniel went in to Rome in the morning. The girls and I got some wash on the line and some lunch made. We all went in later in the afternoon. Please pray for Bill and Gabriel, two guys we met earlier in the day. Pray that they will read the Bibles that were given them. Please also pray for Auminal, who is Bangledesh. Dave has been able to talk with him several times. It is still amazing how many people we are able to talk with that are from all over the world.

We Made It!

We made it here! Both of our flights went really well and we passed through security easily. We arrived about 3:30 am Central. Thank you for your prayers!

Apart from being very tired, we are all doing well. Most of us were able to make it until about 4pm without going to sleep. We are able to stay in the same apartment we did last year, and so our neighbor downstairs ( Her name is Anna) came and gave us a pineapple torta that she had made. Dave says she has been waiting for our arrival today. We unpacked a bit and then the sleepiness really hit! We took a bit of a nap and Dave made a wonderful fish supper. We all got up and ate and now two children are back to sleep and the rest of us wish we were! Now, let's just pray we don't get up at 2am wide awake!

Wednesday is a big day at the V@tican. The p*pe holds a special mass that many tourists come to and have special tickets for. Dave will be going in early and we will join him a little bit later. Please pray for safety, for direction and for souls to be saved! We appreciate all of you so much!

Now We're Off!

Here we sit, in the airport, as we wait for our next flight! We are so thankful for all the help we've had the last couple days. So far, everything has gone very smoothly today and now we just wait! My favorite thing to do!

Thank you for all your prayers. We should arrive in the morning, Italy time. We're excited to see Dave and to be helping him locally! Please be praying for this weekend, especially!

Seeing God's Hand

Sometimes  you just have to go with the flow....praying all the way!

The kids and I left after church to go to the city where we'll leave tomorrow morning. We were about an hour in to our trip and the car just suddenly lost power and had no acceleration. My son was driving, so I looked up and in a matter of seconds, saw a mechanic shop and told him to pull over to that location. We were two hours from our destination and I wasn't sure what to do.  God's hand was in it all though. That much I did know.

The place where we broke down was a few miles from anything. The mechanic lived just a couple houses down and he was able to look at our car. We learned that we would have to leave it there for him to look at, so we called friends to come and get us.

Our knights in shining armour arrived a couple hours later. We are now going to bed after being fed and taken care of as if we were royalty. God is so good. I was not anxious one time through the whole ordeal. I knew that God was with us and proving His majesty. I am loved! I am thankful for His provision, guidance and for good friends He sends our way!

Quick Update!

Just a quick update before I head off to bed!

Dave has a time change tonight, so he loses an hour. He's also getting up early to catch the 6am train into Rome. People will start arriving early for the Palm Sunday services and he wants to be there offering Truth! Please continue praying for him and for the lost......

We are all packed up and except for some little things to do in the morning, we are good to go! We will be heading to church and then leaving to go to the city so that we can be ready Monday morning. Please pray for safe travels and that we would stay healthy.

Thank you for being a part of our ministry. We need prayer warriors!

Please Pray for Health

This is the view in Rome today… just in front of S*int Peter's. Dave said it has been rainy the last couple days.

Please pray for his health. He stood out in the rain for the better part of Wednesday and now it may be catching up with him. He is going to stay home and rest on Saturday, and then Sunday (Palm Sunday) is a big day! There will be special services at the V@tican and lots of people go to hear.

Yesterday was an encouraging day. He met a couple from Switzerland who were Mennonite Baptist. They talked for quite some time. Dave gave them a couple books and CD's from Mike Hoggard's ministry. They asked to pay Dave, but he refused. Several times they insisted. Finally, when they left, they gave him some money. Just that morning, Dave had been praying that God would supply our needs.

Our God is real! We serve a living God who hears our prayers and keeps His promises. Thank you for all of your prayers on our behalf! It is fun to see God work!

From Rome, to the World

Texting has been a very cool part of this trip and it really makes it bearable to endure being so far away from each other. One thing we are loving is the little texts we get from Dave through out the day… He is literally able to reach the world right where he is… a little spot on a street corner of Rome. Here are a few examples…..

"A spanish lady just told me that I am crazy. She took a Spanish tract though…"

"Pray for an Italian teenage girl. I have seen her a few times. She has not taken a tract… I've seen her twice now at the Metro stop."

"I just passed out two Chinese tracts and two English John/Romans"

"I met a lady from our town (Cerveterri, Italy) Sunday. She was going to run the 5K… I saw her again at the station today. I gave her an Italian tract and a Spanish John/Romans and then later remembered she was from Portugal. I need to get her a Portuguese John/Romans"

Here is one from today. It was a longer text, but really gives a good picture of what his day was like.

"Rain, Rain. Had to pass out tracts in the subway underground. A guy stood next to me wearing a long robe and cords. He had a big wood crucifix necklace. He had his hat out asking for money, holding a stick with a crucifix. He joined me. I asked where he was from. Slovakia. I had Slovak tracts! First year for those! I prayed the whole time he was reading it. He is walking across Europe. I kept praying. We got evicted by the police. I went outside and stood under an awning."

Thank you for your continued prayers! There are so many more fun examples. Maybe these people will go back to their countries and share what they heard from a little street corner in Rome!

Marathon Success

I woke up this morning and wanted to hear from Dave right away! I knew he was running the Marathon though and that I'd have to wait. Waiting does something to me! Waiting is hard and when I'm waiting, I feel like I need to do something. S.L.O.W.L.Y, I am learning to pray while I wait! Praying was a very good thing to do this morning!

Dave finished his race. His words were " The race went long, but it finished well". Hmmmm, seems like that is life sometimes too! He was able to talk in depth with several people even as he was running. Many people running the race were from the States. He also passed out lots of tracts to people watching and some to people on the subway. By the time he got back to the apartment, he was very tired but had a very good day. He was wishing we were there and I was wishing I could have been there too!

As we look back on the last week, we've already seen God work in lots of different ways…. both here at home and for Dave overseas! We pray God is working in your life too! Thank you for your continued prayers!

Marathon Time!

This week has flown by and in many ways, our family is glad that it has! This means a little less time until we can all be together! One comment I keep hearing from a certain young member of our family is "I just love airplanes"! This is then followed by all the r.e.a.s.o.n.s a certain young member loves airplanes! Just a few more days…..

Something else that seems to have crept up quickly is the Marathon race that Dave will be running tomorrow! While many of us are fast asleep in our beds, Dave will be running for 26 miles! This distance never ceases to amaze me! More than that though, he will be passing out tracts to the observers along the way. It is an interesting way to pass out tracts, but it is also a creative way to pass out tracts near the V*atic*n…. something that is not usually done. The marathon will be going right through that area.

By the time you read this, it may be too late to pray for Dave as he runs, but please be praying for the people that he gave a tract too. Please be praying for the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. God can use that tract or Bible verse days, weeks or even months from now.

Thank you so much for lifting our family in prayer and for being a part of this ministry. We are grateful to have prayer warriors like you!

Friday Update

Whoever invented free texting internationally, we sure would like to thank them! Pretty sure we'll be getting our money's worth this month!

Dave said he had a really good day and enjoyed meeting lots of people. One lady was from Hong Kong and spoke English. She said she doesn't own a Bible, so Dave was able to give her a John and Romans in English. He met two guys from the Fort Worth area. They took a John and Romans as well. Another lady was from the Ukraine, but spoke Italian. Dave gave her a John and Romans in Italian because he didn't have her language. Two Italian girls took an Italian John and Romans and an Italian boy, about twelve years old, took an Italian tract. Maybe he'll be the one to impact the next generation for Christ, right where he lives!

Please pray for these people!

Dave will be running a marathon this Sunday and passing out tracts while he runs to the people gathered to watch. Please be praying for these people as well as for him.

As for those of us at home, we are feeling much better today and gaining energy. Thank you for all your prayers!

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

The Suitcase Arrived!

Praise the Lord that the suitcase has been delivered! Thank you so much for all your prayers.

Dave said that the suitcase came at 3pm, Rome time, and by 3:15pm, he was on the train to Rome to pass out tracts! No time wasted there!

He'll be going again tomorrow, so please continue to pray for God's leading… that He would direct Dave's steps to just the right people who God has already been preparing.

On a side note…. please pray for those of us at home. Three of us are battling some kind of stomach virus. My youngest daughter, as she was laying down, says to me "Mom, would you pray with me?" Of course, that melted my heart and we prayed together right away. Love those moments!

URGENT Prayer Request

As of 10pm today, Rome time, Dave's suitcase had not been delivered. Somehow, it was delayed in Paris on his flight over and was to be delivered to where he is staying. After calling several places for him, we determined that it was put out for delivery Tuesday night. He has been waiting around for them to deliver the suitcase and has not been able to go and do what He is over there to do.

Please pray that his suitcase will be delivered tomorrow morning, even while we sleep. (smile) Please also pray that Dave would be encouraged and not discouraged because of this set back.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Phillipians 1:6 KJV

Hebrews 11:13,15,16

... These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off and were PERSUADED of them, and EMBRACED them, and CONFESSED that they were STRANGERS and PILGRIMS on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country... But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
