Missions Monday - Darkness

Every Monday, we hope to be able to share something about the mission work that we are doing here in Italy. Welcome to the first installment of Missions Monday....

Do you notice anything about what the people in these pictures are wearing? I wonder if the same things stand out to you as they do to us as we are walking around the city?

One thing that we have noticed about the clothing here in Italy, especially during the winter, is that it is all dark. There are a lot of browns and blacks. We're not sure if this is for a specific reason, or if it is the style....

As we were sitting in the train station waiting for our train, I was struck with the comparison between what is seen on the outside and what may be going on inside the souls of these people. I am not suggesting that because they are wearing dark clothing, they therefore have dark souls. I am saying though, that this is a very real representation of the majority here in Italy.

Darkness of souls is very prevalent here in Italy. We hope and pray we can bring light ...

In Him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:4-5

Hebrews 11:13,15,16

... These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off and were PERSUADED of them, and EMBRACED them, and CONFESSED that they were STRANGERS and PILGRIMS on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country... But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
